**4 Dec issue --
Died -- DOWDY -- at San Juan, Dec. 2, Edward DOWDY, a native of
California, aged 30 years, 9 months, 10 days. [Edward DOWDY died at the
residence of his mother at San Juan, Wednesday afternoon. He had been a
sufferer from consumption and his death was not unexpected. He was born
at San Benito 30 years ago and during all his life had been a resident of
the county. During the incumbency of his father he was Deputy Postmaster
at Hollister and won many friends for himself by the courteous treatment
given the patrons of the office. He was quiet and unassuming and his
death will be regretted by a large number of friends. The funeral will be
held today at San Juan.]
Died -- DAY -- in Hollister, Nov. 30, Alta May DAY, a native of
California, aged 17 years, 2 mos. [ daughter of Mr.&Mrs. L.V. DAY, of
Lone Tree, died Monday of brain fever. She has been a sufferer for some
time and for the past 2 weeks has been unconscious. The funeral took
place from the M.E. Church.]
Died -- TITUS -- in Hollister, Nov. 28, Martha, beloved daughter of
Mr.&Mrs. F.J. TITUS, a native of California, aged 12 years. [Martha, the
only daughter of Mr.&Mrs. F.J. TITUS, succumbed to an operation for
appendicitis last Saturday morning. She had apparently recovered from the
shock of the operation and was doing as well as could be expected but
complications arose and her life flickered out The interment took place
at San Jose, where the body was taken Monday morning.]
Tres Pinos Items -- Mrs. L. THORNTON received the sad news of her
fathers death last Sunday. She left here Monday morning, accompanied by
Mr. THORNTON, to attend the funeral services, which took place at San
Jose.
The sad news of the sudden death of Prof. Geo. A. DE PREZ at San Jose was
received here Wednesday. He had been in seeming perfect health, but
during Tuesday night his heart began to act badly. Physicians were called
in and under their treatment the patient rallied and passed into a
restful sleep. Early Wednesday morning he awoke suffering greatly and
before a physician could be summoned he passed away. Prof. DE PREZ was a
graduate of the best music schools of New York city and London He had
large classes at San Jose, Gilroy and Hollister where he has been
teaching for the past 7 or 8 years the funeral will be held today at San
Jose.
**11 Dec issue --
Died -- McKEE -- at San Juan, Dec. 8, Frank R. McKEE, a native of
California, aged 26 years. [Frank R. McKEE, son of J.B. McKEE, of San
Juan, died Tuesday at the home of his parents of typhoid fever. He was 26
years of age and a popular young man of much promise, and his taking off
in the prime of his usefulness is a sad blow to his family and many
friends. He was a member of the Odd Fellows, Rebekahs, and Fraternal Aid.
The funeral was under the auspices of San Benito Lodge No. 159, I.O.O.F.,
last Wednesday, a large concourse assisting in the last sad rites.]
John AZEVEDO, a brother of Mrs. Adeline GARCIA, died at the county
hospital last Sunday from rheumatic trouble.
Dr. M.E. GONZALES died suddenly in San Francisco last Sunday. He was a
native of Monterey county where he had large property interests.
A son was born to the wife of F.N. HITCHCOCK at Napa on Nov. 7th. The
news is a little late, but it may be of interest to Franks friends to
know that he is still raising boys, this one being the 5th.
L.B. OLIVER, an old resident of Salinas, died at the latter place last
Wednesday. He was a native of Maine, 75 years of age, and was a brother
of Mrs. Philip HENRY of this place. Mr.&Mrs. HENRY attended the funeral
at Salinas, Wednesday.
The body of a man with his throat cut from ear to ear was discovered in a
canyon at Quien Sabe last Tuesday by Clemens BRUNE while he was out
looking for stray stock It was evidently a case of suicide, as a bloody
razor was found nearby and there was no evidence of a struggle. The man
was a stranger here, about 40 years of age and appeared to be a
foreigner. About $10 was found upon his person, but no clew to his
identity

Born -- FINCH -- at New Idria, Dec. 9, to the wife of J.G. FINCH, a
daughter.
Born -- HERBERT -- near Hollister, Dec. 16, to the wife of Jos. HERBERT,
a son.
Married -- BURTON-FINE -- in Hollister, Dec. 10, by Rev. G.T. MEEKER;
H.E. BURTON and Miss Bertha V. FINE, both of Gilroy.
Died -- ALVARADO -- near Hollister, Dec. 13, infant daughter of Mr. T.B.
ALVARADO.
Hon. Jesse D. CARR passed away at Salinas last Friday morning at the age
of 89 years. Mr. CARR was an early settler in California. At an early day
he settled in the Salinas valley, where he has since made his home. He
was a progressive citizen, charitable to a fault, and of the utmost
loyalty to his friends The funeral took place Saturday from the M.E.
Church, South, at Salinas, and the interment was at Cypress Lawn Cemetery
at San Francisco.
A brilliant wedding took place at San Jose, Dec. 9th, when Miss Claire
Grace BARNHISEL became the bride of Mr. Charles Bradford HUDSON. Mrs.
HUDSON is the daughter of Mr.&Mrs. L. BARNHISEL of San Jose, and a sister
of Fred BARNHISEL of this place. Among those in attendance we note the
name of F.L. BARNHISEL and wife of Hollister and Dr. Amy BOWEN, of San
Francisco, who was a former resident here.
Mrs. E.A. SAWYER was called to San Jose, Monday, to attend the funeral of
her cousin, Mrs. Jessie BEAULEAU, whose death occurred last Sunday. Mrs.
BEAULEAU was a sister of I.N. CASTLE.
**25 Dec issue --
Born -- SAVAGE -- at Hollister, Dec. 19, to the wife of Dr. F.L. SAVAGE,
a son.
Married -- BERSINGER-WARNOCK -- at San Juan, Dec. 22, by Rev. F.L.
NEWCOMB; Lewis BERSINGER to Gertrude A. May WARNOCK. [L. BERSINGER, a
prosperous farmer of the San Juan valley, was married last Tuesday at San
Juan to Miss Gertrude WARNOCK, sister of J.A. WARNOCK. They will reside
on Mr. BERSINGERs place near San Juan ]
