Hello Renee: My great-grandfather, Antonio Nunes, immigrated from the Azore Islands in Portugal in 1860. He was born in approx. 1840. I know he had at least one brother. Their surname in Portugal was Nunes-Silva. When he came to the U.S. it was shortened to Nunes.

Not sure if we have a connection or not.
