No better words can describe the people of San Francisco
after April 18, 1906 than these. They were written by Mayor
Edward Robeson Taylor and are are inscribed in stone high
above the rotunda of the present City Hall.

O glorious city of our hearts that hast been tried and not
found wanting...
Go thou with like spirit to make the future thine.
