I did look up obits for the folks that Perrin found ....

Have both an obit and a funeral notice for Joshua E. McDaniel ...... Death
comes suddenly to Prominent Rancher ... a prominent rancher on the San
Francisco Road bear Burcher's corners died suddently late yesterday. Mr.
McDaniel had been in his usual health up to the time of his death having
been to San Jose yesterday forenoon. He is mourned by a daughter Mrs. Lulu
Byne of San Francisco and three grandchildren. Interment Oak Hill.
