Ex-Wrights Station Agent Dies

LOS GATOS - Miss Alice Frances Matty, native of San Jose and daughter of
a pioneer California family, died here Tuesday morning after an extended
illness. She was 80.

Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. today at the Place Funeral Home,
followed at 9 a.m. by Requiem Mass in St. Mary's Catholic Church. Interment
will be in San Jose's Calvary Cemetery.

Miss Matty was a daughter of Antoine Matty, California settler in 1853
who operated a Santa Cruz Mountains resort at Wright's Station for 30 years.

At 15, Miss Matty became station agent for the Southern Pacific Railroad
at Wright's Station, and held the position nine years. She later was employed
by the California Hotel Corp., and was cashier clerk of the Del Monte Hotel
in Monterey many years.

Miss Matty never married. Survivors are a sister, Mrs. Anna J. Meyer of
Los Gatos; three nieces, Mrs. J.E. Decker of San Francisco, Mrs. C.A. Talkington
of Los Angeles, and Miss Alyce Meyer of Los Gatos, and a nephew, Arthur
K. Meyer of Los Gatos.

She was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church here, and a member of the pioneers
of Santa Clara County, and the young Ladies' Institute of Los Gatos.

of Mrs. Anna J. Meyer of Los Gatos; aunt of Mrs. J.E. Decker of San Francisco;
Mrs. C.A. Talkington of Los Angeles; Arthur K. and Alyce M. Meyer of Los
Gatos. A native of California.

Friends are invited to attend the funeral service Thursday, Oct. 30, 1958
at the Place Funeral Home, 115 N. Santa Cruz Ave., Los Gatos at 8:30 a.m.
Thence to St. Mary's Catholic Church where a Requiem Mass will be said
for the repose of her soul at 9 a.m. Rosary will be recited Wednesday Oct.
29, 1958, at 8 p.m.

Interment Calvary Cemetery, San Jose.

Parking provided for in rear of Funeral Home off Victory lane.
