Death Takes E. Pinard; S.J. Native

Eugene Pinard, 67, member of a pioneer San Jose family, died in a rest
home here yesterday after a lengthy illness. He was a retired painter.

A native of San Jose, Pinard was a cousin of the late Joseph A. Pinard,
owner of "Pinard's Island," a bit of land at the southeast corner of Sunol
street and Auzerais avenue which he and his descendants refused to allow
annexed to the City of San Jose for many years.

Finally completely surrounded by factories, packing plants, and a winery,
it was "swallowed up" in recent years.

Eugene Pinard never married. He was the brother of Mrs. Irene Winslow and
Victor Pinard, both of San Jose; Louis Pinard, of San Francisco, and the
late Henry Pinard and Mrs. Pearl Cushing.

Funeral will be held from the Lima-Salmon-Tully Memorial Chapel Thursday
at 8:30 a.m. Requiem Mass will be said in St. Joseph's Church at 9. Interment
will follow in Santa Clara Catholic Cemetery.

The Rosary will be recited in the Memorial Chapel tomorrow night at 8.

PINARD - Entered into rest, San Jose, Oct. 11, 1954; Eugene Pinard, beloved
brother of Mrs. Irene Winslow and Victor Pinard of San Jose, Louis Pinard
of San Francisco, and the late Henry Pinard and Mrs. Pearl Cushing; a native
of San Jose, aged 67.

Friends are invited to attend funeral services tomorrow, Thurs., Oct. 14,
1954, at 8:30 a.m. from the Lima, Salmon & Tully Memorial Chapel, 710 Willow
St. at Delmas Ave., thence to St. Joseph's Church where a requiem mass
will be celebrated for the repose of his soul, commencing at 9 a.m.; interment
in Santa Clara Catholic Cemetery. Rosary services this evening at the above
memorial chapel at 8 p.m. to which friends are invited to attend.
