Henry Stokes' Funeral Rites Set Tomorrow

Last rites for Henry Stokes, 46, killed in a motorcycle accident Sunday,
will be held tomorrow at 9 a.m. from the Monahan, O'Brien and Moriarty
Chapel followed by requiem mass at St. Patrick's Church at 9:30 a.m. Interment
will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Stokes was instantly killed when a motorcycle he was riding swerved suddenly
and hit a tree at 13th and Empire Sts. He owned and operated the Stokes
Tamale Parlor, 53 N. First St.

He is survived by his widow, Frances, of 240 N. 13th St., and two sons,
Henry Jr., and Robert Stokes. He also leaves six brothers and sisters,
Mrs. Addie Schmidt., James Stokes, Mrs. Josephine Henricks, Mrs. Julia
Martin, Mrs. Agnes Stokes, all of San Jose, and Mrs. Dolores Martinez,
of Watsonville.

He was a member of the San Jose Chapter of the Native Sons of the Golden
West.

STOKES - In San Jose, Calif., June 8, 1947, Henry A. Stokes, devoted husband
of Frances Stokes; dearly beloved father of Henry R. Stokes; C.Y. U.S.
Navy, and Robert E. Stokes of San Jose; beloved son of Mary C. Stokes of
San Jose and the late James T. Stokes; loving brother of James T. Stokes,
Jr., Addie Schmidt, Josephine Hendricks, Julia Martin and Agnes Stokes,
all of San Jose, Dolores Martinez of Watsonville and the late Albert J.
Stokes. A native of Salinas, aged 45 years. A member of San Jose Parlor
No. 22 Native Sons of the Golden West.

Friends are invited to attend the funeral tomorrow, Wednesday, June 11,
1947, at 9:00 o'clock a.m. from the Chapel of Monahan, O'Briend and Moriarty,
174 West San Carlos Street, thence to St. Patrick's Church where a requiem
mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul commencing at 9:30 o'clock.
Interment Calvary Cemetery.

The Rosary will be recited at the above Chapel this Tuesday evening at
8:30 o'clock.
