>I have a puzzle involving the McCutchan family that I hope someone may be
able to help with. My puzzle involves a James William McCutchan, born
in/near San Jose, Calif. about 1848. When he died in 1911 his obituary
stated that he had 2 brothers and 2 sisters but didn't name them. His
father was from Tenn. and his mother from Missouri according to census
records. He had 4 kids: Thaddeus/Thaddus Herbert, Edward Orville, Eva M.,
and Barclay Clifford. I have a strong suspicion that this guy was
connected to McCutchan's in Sonoma County, CA as well as to the "Big Bill"
McCutchen from the Donner Party. I think it's quite possible that "my"
James may have been a son of Big Bill. Information on the web (perhaps
from the CA 1852 census), indicates that he had a son named James born
about 1848 and this James is not in the household in 1870 or thereafter.
Is there anyone out there that might have done research on this family
(beyond what is on the web) and/or that might be des!
