Hi Karyn,
Thank you so much for your time in researching and sending the two Baker articles. Unfortunately for me they add to the mystery of the death. I have Lawrence's death certificate which shows that it was indeed he who died. His death certificate says that he died from an accidentally gunshot would inflicted by Enlyse Russell. He did not have a son, Mark, so I am not sure what all that is about. Lawrence was only 35 years old so he could not have had a son in his 20's. I think the newspaper got some bad information. He had a daughter, Alverda, born 1911 and a son, John born 1917. Another lady sent me an article from the Oakland Tribune (attached) that shows that there were three women involved in the death inquest with the remains being given to his ex-wife, Lucille J. Baker. Apparently Lawrence's girl friend showed up at the inquest to claim his body and his estate. The coroner awarded the body to the ex-wife for burial. I appreciate your help with this. It certainly gives!
me an interesting aspect of his death.
By the way, Mr. Baker was a great-nephew of Susan B. Anthony, women's rights worker and lecturer.
Sincerely,
Phyllis C. Stehm
