The story I heard was Lewis C. Shores came to Shasta County as an early wagon train master. Somehow this family is connected to George W. Maynard and his wife Elizabeth Hays, from Fern, Franklin Co. Arkansas. I want to say Sylvania was a Hays as well and sister to Elizabeth. If so, their parents were Adrian Hays and Deliah Fugate. My good computer crashed and I haven't been able to retrieve my family history files, this is from memory. I researched this line over 12 years ago, so you know...

Joyce, I just went to genforum and found you replied to me 3 years ago! Here is what I posted then.

Lewis Cass Shores is found on the 1870 Franklin County, Arkansas census (White Rock Township) He married Sylvania "Bonia" Hays, the daughter of Adren and Delila (Fugett) Hayes. They lived in Fern, Franklin County, AR. I know of a daughter, Charity Shores.

Lewis Cass Shores died ca. 1924 here in Shasta County, California. The sister of Sylvania Hays was Elizabeth Hays. She married George W. Maynard. The Shores and Maynards lived in Shasta County by 1896.
