PAIR INDICTED FOR SETTING FIRE
The United States Grand Jury has found indictments against Lee Butcher and G. Galpin for setting fire to public domain near Castle Crags. Several weeks ago the pair faced Justice Wicks at Castella, but due to a jury disagreement the case was dropped. Thursday, U.S. Deputy Marshal H.M. Moffett came up from San Francisco in search of the two. He found Butcher that evening near Castle Crags, placing him under arrest. He was found roaming in the woods with the Turpin woman. Butcher was armed to the teeth, but Moffett was accompanied by W.S. Conway, and they soon had the fellow in custody and lodged him in jail for safe-keeping. Friday they went to 18th Crossing and found Galpin up a hill cutting wood, and promptly put him under arrest, and also brought him to Dunsmuir. The pair will be taken to San Francisco to be tried in U.S. District Court in that city.
