I have copied your requests and will be mailing to you shortly.

Highlights:
E. C. REED -- Captain Elbridge G. REED came to CA in 1850. He was born in
Maine July, 1819. His father was William REED, of Plumb Island, and
grandfather REED was a native of Massachusetts. William married Hannah
HUTCHINGS, native of Maine.

In 1849 Capt REED sailed on the ship Rob Roy for San Francisco. He was one
of the company who built the steamer Kenneboe to ply on the Sacramento River
between Sacramento and Marysville. His brother, William, was commander while
Capt REED was mate. In the spring of 1852 he came to Red Bluff and built the
first frame house in the town.
In 1843 he married Miss Susan RANDALL, native of Augusta Maine, daughter of
Samuel RANDALL.
They had six children: (three alive)
Ellen (Mrs. A. W. BISHOP)
Alvira B. (Mrs. Charles ADAMS)
Annie (Mrs. William CAHOON)

After 36 years of marriage, Mrs. REED died and Capt REED married Mrs. Emily
A. EASTMAN, widow of Harvey EASTMAN. They reside on their ranch south of Red
Bluff.

You also asked me to check the death index for Erastus C. REED. He died at
age 36 in Sonoma 8/25/1908. I have gotten his obituary (2 of them). Those
will also be in the mailing.

Gates REED is listed in Santa Rosa Republican as dying of Apoplexy in Agua
Caliente. He was a singe man and the brother-in-law of John WOODS, the local
barber. For sometime he had suffered from Bright's disease. And in the
Sonoma Index-Tribune he is listed as Erastus C. G. REED, son of Mrs. E.
REED, pioneer resident of the valley. Native of Jasper county, IA, but had
lived in this valley since he was a small child. Interred in Mountain
Cemetery.

I hope these are the correct people for you. Sandra
