Message Board Post:

I am trying to find where Emil Gilhousen (b. 1885, Indiana; d. 1974, Santa Rosa, Sonoma Co, CA), fits into our family tree. I discovered him during a search of the California Death Index, and thanks to an RAOGK volunteer, have obtained copies of his funeral notice and obituary from the 5 Nov 1974 edition of the Press Democrat. While they contain some interesting information, they did not reference his parents' names.

Listed relatives were: Lula Gilhousen, Booneville, IN, sister-in-law; and cousins: Mrs. Cecil Wallace, Mrs. Mada Nuebling, and Mrs. Wesley Bawell, all of Indiana. No mention is made of spouse or children, so I am operating on the assumption that he remained unmarried.

He somehow flew under the radar with respect to the U.S. Censuses... I find him in none of the years during his lifespan in California or Indiana, despite searching on every conceivable variant of his given and surnames. He does appear in the 1969 Polk Directory for Santa Rosa, with a residence at 840 Dalton Street.

His obituary states that he was retired from a career as an optician, last working for American Optical Co.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who can provide any information or clues on this genealogical orphan.

Thanks,

John-Mark
