I probably won't get back to the library for another week. It is a book in
the Special Collections room. I could check then. If your Carpenters were
pioneers (there is a Carpenter road) have you tried this site? It is an
index of all the names in the CA county biographies published and available
at the CA Room of the state library. There's a search feature and it tells
you how to order copies if you find one of your names.

There is an entry for an Elizabeth Carpenter in the 1900 census index:
Precinct Turlock, Enumeration District 58, sheet 8B
Also 1910
Eliz Carpenter, E.D. 174 (Turlock) sheet 2a line 8
Truman Carpenter ED 174, sheet 2A, line 9 (doesn't appear in 1900)
