ELSIE CALVIN
Funeral services will be held in the Shannon & Carmody Funeral Chapel at
12 p.m. Tuesday, for Mrs. Elsie Calvin, 60, who died suddenly of an apparent
heart attack late Friday night in the garden of her Hughson home.
Mrs. Calvin, a native of Iowa, and her husband, A. J. Calvin, had watched
television Friday evening. They went into their back yard later and listened
to the radio. Calvin heard her gasp, saw her head drop and rushed to her.
He called Hughson volunteer firemen, who administered oxygen until a physician,
summoned by Calvin, arrived. He pronounced her dead.
Mrs. Calvin, a member of the Hughson Rebekah Lodge, had lived in Hughson
since 1910.
She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Lydia Johnston of Hughson, and seven brothers,
William F. Matthew of Modesto, Ralph Matthew of Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz
County, Richard Matthew of Shingletown, Shasta County, and M.B., Alex,
Lloyd and Alan Matthew of Hughson.

CALVIN - In Hughson, June 24, 1960, Elsie Matthew Calvin, loved wife of
Alphord; loved sister of Lydia E. Johnson, M. B. Matthew, Allen (sic)H.
Matthew, Lloyd S., Matthew and Alexandria S. Mathew (sic), all of Hughson,
and William Matthew of Modesto, Richard Matthew of Shingletown and Ralph
M. Matthew of Santa Cruz. She was preceeded in death by a brother and a
sister, Alfred E. Matthew and Leona Preston.
Friends are invited to attend the funeral services Tuesday, June 28th at
12 o'clock at the Shannon & Carmody Funeral Chapel. Visitation will begin
after 4 PM Sunday, June 26th.
