Following was posted for Joe Fairbanks, please refer communication to him:
James Goddard Fairbanks removed to Stanislaus County in 1858 or 1859 with
his family. His daughter Emma Fairbankswas born in Mike's Gulch (4
Oct 1859), as was his son Robert B Fairbanks (16 Apr 1862) and his son
deLos Fairbanks (16 Feb 1864, d. 25 Jul 1866 Oakdale, Stanislaus,
California).
Is it possible to further define where in the gold fields Mike's Gulch
may be? Ellen (Smith) Fairbanks, wife of James Goddard, apparently
had enough of living in Mike's Gulch, and they moved into Oakdale, where
Ellen bore triplets 23 Jan 1867.. I would suppose it to be an item
of notoriety to have triplets, and wonder if there arte news accounts of
the event? Hannah Fairbanks was born in Oakdale 29 Apr 1870, as were
Thomas Fairbanks on 25 nov 1872, George Fairbanks on 20 Nov 1874, Grace
Fairbanks on 29 Jul 1876 and Minnie Fairbanks born 26 Apr 1878..
He must have moved in 1878 or 1879 to the gold fields of North Idaho, because
he is found in the 1880 Idaho Census at Camas Precinct which is on Gold
Hill in Northern Latah County, though at that time it was part of Nez Perce
County. I would suppose Mike's Gulch would be near Oakdale.
Is it possible that one of your members have knowledge of some of the
gold fields? Is someone willing to look up any Fairbanks in the county
Every Name Index? Being disabled, it is not possible that
I research this myself, nor do I have funds to purchase that index.
I thank you for any consideration that you may offer.
