LIFE-LONG RESIDENT PASSED AWAY ON SATURDAY
Mrs. Fermor Newsome, a life-long resident of Newman, passed away early Saturday morning in the Victory Hospital at Napa, only a few hours after she had become suddenly ill in the home of relatives whom she had been visiting for the past three weeks.
Funeral services were held at eleven o'clock on 'Tuesday morning in the Davis-Hansen Chapel, with Rev. Donald D. Sarner, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, conducting the rites. Interment was in Hills Ferry Cemetery.
She was born here 81 years ago, the daughter of the pioneer couple, Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Robinson, whose early-day home was three miles east of Newman. She was the widow of J. E. Newsome, who passed away in 1942. For the past several years, she had resided in her home on T Street.
Throughout her lifetime she was active in community, church and lodge activities. She was a charter member of Santa Rita Lodge of Rebekahs, which was instituted here in 1908, and its Degree of Honor, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She had been a member of the Presbyterian Church for 38 years and at one time served as a deacon over a period of five years. She was also a member of the Friendship Circle of the Presbyterian Women's Association.
She was the mother of Charles Newsome of Newman, Ralph Newsome of San Francisco, Ellis Newsome of Iowa City, Iowa and Lawrence Newsome of Chicago, Illinois. Also surviving are four grandchildren.
