VERA E. B. BOOTHE - A funeral service has been scheduled at 1 p.m. Wednesday in
Salas Brothers' Funeral Chapel, followed by inurnment in Modesto Cemetery, for
Vera Elizabeth Bates Boothe, 80, who died Saturday in a Modesto canvalescent
hospital after a long illness.
Born in Lake County, she moved to LaGrange in 1930 and to Modesto in 1953.
She owned the Hammond & Bates Grocery Store in LaGrange for 25 years.
She was a past director of the Visiting Nurses Association; a member of the
Order of Eastern Star, Electra Chapter 72; LaGrange Rebekah Lodge 323; Native
Daughters of the Golden West, Morada Parlor, and the Stanislaus County
Historical Society.
She leaves two sons, George and John Bates, both of Modesto; a brother, Kenneth
Anderson of Stockton; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
