NEWMAN RESIDENT DIES WHILE AT WORK
(Herald Special Service)
NEWMAN, 12. John L. Patelzick, 69, collapsed while at work at the new
Stone residence on Q street at 11 o'[clock this morning, and died soon
after Dr. H. V. Armistead, who had been hastily summoned, reached him.
Although a number of men were working about the building, none of them saw
Patelzick when he was stricken. Otto Anderson, a plasterer, who was a work
inside of the new house, was the first to see him lying on the ground. The
stricken man was still breating, though unconscious, when Anderson reached
him. Hasty efforts were made by the workmen to revive him, but were
unsuccessful. Dr. Armistead declared death resulted from an apoplectic
stroke.
Patelzick was a native of Germany. He had resided in the United States 55
years and in Newman four years, coming here from Small, Idaho. When the
Newman creamery and manufacturing company failed he was employed as keeper
of the plant. Since the sale of the plant he had been employed in various
capacities around town. Contractor Earl Hibbard has employed him at
different times during the building of the new Stone house on Q street.
Patelzick leaves his widow, Emma Patelzick and a large family of children.
The children are John Albert, William and Thomas Patelzick of Idaho, James
A. Patelzick of Sawtelle, and Mrs. Elmer Grant, Miss Emma, Antone and Flave
Patelzick of Newman.
Funeral arrangments have not been made.
