I am seeking info on Carroll Bowen, he is listed in 1870 census Stanislaus Co., Empire Twp., Paradise City, Ca. He has a wife Nancy, and at least 8 kids. He was born about 1828 in Tn., Nancy was born about 1831, also in Tn.
I believe this individual is my great-great grandfather Andrew Jackson Bowen's brother.
Carroll lived in Newton Co., AR area in 1850's, and has a land patent issued in 1857(listed as Carroll Boen).
Family stories say Andrew, another brother Henry or Harrison were traveling to Ca. to find gold, when word reached Andrew that his wife and young son were murdered by bushwhackers, Andrew and Henry or Harrison turned back, while Carroll kept on going. Carroll supposedly did well in Ca.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You
Matt
