Brief Local News column

John Wilson Shannon, an old resident of Modesto, died at his home in this city last evening at 7:30 o'clock after an illness of several weeks of Bright's disease. Deceased was aged 66 years, 8 months and 28 days, and was a native of Ohio. During the civil war deceased was a member of the Fifth Kansas Cavalry, Company A, and the funeral will take place under the auspices of Grant Post No. 9, G. A. R., tomorrow at 3 p.m. from the family residence.
