*GSSC Proudly Presents Fall Seminar 2005 with Hank Z Jones*

The Genealogical Society of Stanislaus County’s Fall Seminar will be
held Saturday, October 22 at 10 a.m. at the Red Lion Inn in Modesto
(Briggsmore and Sisk Roads). The speaker for this event is Hank Z Jones,
nationally known genealogist who has been the featured speaker at the
NGS and FGS Conferences and various state genealogical societies’ all
over the country. Hank has been actively climbing family trees since the
age of eight, when he found an old trunk filled with fading tintypes,
family letters, and old newspaper clipping in the basement of his
parents’ home in San Leandro. Jones has accumulated numerous awards over
his career researching the Palatine immigrants; he was elected as a
Fellow of the American Society of Genealogist. He has written several
books on the German immigrants.

Hank’s “other life” outside of genealogy, has been in the entertainment
business. Soon after he graduated from Stanford he began his career in
the entertainment business as a co-star of the old Tennessee Ernie Ford
daytime TV show on ABC. He has also appeared in several Walt Disney
movies in the ‘60’s and 70’s; had recurring rolls on MY THREE SON’S and
the PATTY DUKE SHOW. Hank retired from “on-camera” work in 1981 and has
since devoted his time to his first love genealogical research.

The topics that will be covered are:

* #1) "WHEN THE SOURCES ARE WRONG!" (A problem every genealogist has to
deal with in research and what to do to solve the problems that
erroneous sources present;
2) "TRACING THE ORIGINS OF EARLY 18TH CENTURY **PALATINE** & OTHER
EMIGRANTS" (one of his special areas of expertise, the methodology in
tracing an emigrant, how to document them overseas - a step by step plan
for a successful search!)
#3) "FAMILY TRADITION: HOW TO SEPARATE FACT FROM FICTION IN *

*GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH" (again, something we all have to sort out in
every family)
#4) "HOW PSYCHIC ROOTS BECAME AN “UNSOLVED MYSTERY" (incorporating many
experiences from his best-selling books on serendipity & intuition in
genealogy, dramatized on NBC's "Unsolved Mysteries" program)*

*Pre-registration is required. Cost for this event is $30. Contact Ellen
Reesh at 209-577-0967 for more information.
