in Burke Co., North Carolina. Gemima BRITTAIN was born about 1785. She

4. R Henry MULL was born on 12 Sep 1809 in Burke Co., North Carolina. He
died on 1 Jun 1891 in Burke Co., North Carolina. Mr. Henry Mull, who lived
at the old Mull homestead, three miles South of Morganton, died last Monday
at the age of 81 years. Mr. Mull was one of the best citizens of the
county, and his large family are among the most prosperous and substantial
people in Burke [County]. We regret that want of space this week prevents
our giving amore extended notice of the life of this old patriarch, who has
left Burke County such a fine heritage in his large family. [Journal of

North Carolina. She died on 1 Jun 1890 in Burke Co., North Carolina. She
was buried in Mount Home Church Cem., Burke Co., NC. Row 20, #1. "Blessed
are the dead abiding in the Lord. Aged 73 yr's, 26 d's." R Henry MULL and
Sarah BRITTAIN had the following children:

26iii.William T MULL was born about 1836 in Burke Co., North Carolina.
He served in the military in 1861/62.8 Corporal William T. Mull was born in
Burke County and was by occupation a farmer prior to enlisting in Co. K,
35th Reg't, NC Troops, CSA in Burke County, at age 21, 15 Oct. 1861.
Mustered in as a private. Promoted to Corporal in Dec. 1861. Present with
his unit until his death in a hospital at Richmond, VA 4-5 Dec. 1862 of
pneumonia. He died about 5 Dec 1865 in Richmond, Virginia. Inventory of
the property of William Mull at his death while fighting in the Civil War:
one horse, side saddle, one man's saddle, one cow and calf, four head of
sheep, nine heads of hogs, 40 bu. of corn, 10 bu. of , one wagon, one
rifle, one grindstone, lot of horse hide. . . [Burke County, NC Estate
papers, 25 April 1863]
One note against Sophronia Corpening, no date to it; . A. Poe, no date
to it; John Brown, 1861, $1.42; Thomas Hemphil, no date, $6.56. Also the
sale of the effects of Wm. Mull.

28v.Marcus E MULL was born about 1844 in Burke Co., North Carolina. He
served in the military in 1862/63.9 Marcus E. Mull was born in Burke County
where he resided as a farmer and enlisted, at age 18, in Co. C, 5th
Battalion, NC Cavalry, CSA, 8 July 1862 for the war. Present or accounted
for until captured at Irving, KY, 31 July 1863 and confined at Camp Chase,
Ohio. Absent in confinement when transferred to Co. H, 65th Reg't, NC
Troops, CSA (6th Reg't NC Cavalry) 8 August 1863.
From Camp Chase, Ohio, he was transferred to Fort Delaware, Del. 29 Feb.
1864, where he died 21 March 1864 "of inflammation of lungs."

She was married to James BRITTAIN (son of Mark BRITTAIN and Barbara MULL ),

THIRD GENERATION
24. James C "Squire Jim" MULL was born about 1835 in Burke Co., North
Carolina. He served in the military in 1862/63. North Carolina Troops:
1861-1865, Vol. II:357 and Vol. II: 503. James C. Mull was born in Burke
county where he resided as a farmer and enlisted, at age 28, 8 July 1862 in
Co. C, 5th Battalion, NC Cavalry, CSA. Present or accounted for until
transferred to Co. H, 65th Reg't, NC Troops ( 8th Reg't, NC Cavalry) 8
Aug. 1863.
25. Joseph "Black Joe" MULL was born about 1836 in Burke Co., North
Carolina. He served in the military between 1861 and 1865. Joseph Mull,
Sr. was born in Burke County, NC and was by occupation a farmer prior to
enlisting, at age 25, in Co. K, 35th Reg't, NC Troops, CSA, on 15 Oct. 1861.
Present or accounted for with his unit until he surrendered at Appomattox
Court House, VA 9 April 1865.
Joseph Mull, Sr., age 71, was pronounced due to age and exposure during the
War, he is not able to do but very little labor. A second petition was filed
in July 1817. [Both petitions are on file in Confederate Records, North
Carolina Archives and History, Raleigh, NC. - July 1907, Burke County, NC,
Confederate Pension]
He died on 12 Jul 1918 in Burke Co., North Carolina. Death of An Aged Citizen
Mr. Joseph Mull, Sr., aged 81 years, died Friday at his home near Mull's
schoolhouse. He had been in an enfeebled condition for the past two
months, suffering from heart trouble. His wife died about four years ago.
Six children survive - Messrs. Theodore, Joe, and Bob Mull, Mrs. James
Fulbright and Misses Sallie and Ida Mull. He is survived also by two
brothers, Mr. D.B. [David B. ] Mull of Icard and Mr. B. I. [Benjamin
Ishmael] Mull and a number of grandchildren. The funeral was held at Bethel
church Saturday morning at 11 o'clock, conducted by Rev. A.J. Burrus.
Mr. Mull was a good citizen and a man of excellent character, standing well
in his community and county. He was a Confederate veteran. [18 July 1918 The

27. Mary Elizabeth "Eliza" MULL was born on 10 Oct 1838 in Burke Co., North
Carolina. She died on 5 Sep 1880 in Burke Co., North Carolina. She was
buried in Mount Home Church Cem., Burke Co., NC. Row 19, #2. She was not
buried with husband due to flooding at Warlick's Chapel Cem.
She was married to Mumford C SHUPING (son of John Jacob SHUPING II and
Elizabeth M CORRELL ) on 10 Oct 1860 in Burke Co., North Carolina. Mumford
C SHUPING11 was born on 14 Nov 1830 in China Grove, Rowan, North Carolina.
He died on 20 Jan 1908 in Burke Co., North Carolina. He was buried in
Warlick's Chapel UMC Cem., Burke Co., NC. Mary Elizabeth "Eliza" MULL and
Mumford C SHUPING had the following children:
