Jacob Cline was born c1763. He married 28 Nov. 1786 Elizabeth Wilfong with
her brother John Wilfong as bondsman and Joseph Steel as witness.
Elizabeth was born c1768 and was the third child of Major George Wilfong
and Mary M. (Poffh) Moll Wilfong.
There is NO proof of most of the children of Jacob and Elizabeth. I do
not mean to be difficult, for NOONE can prove all their children, and
there is NO proof that Elijah Cline was their son. He could have been, but
the best possible GUESS is that these were their children: 1) Daniel Cline
-Susannah Wike; David Cline; Eli Cline; Ephraim Cline; Jacob Cline: Lawson
Cline; Absolum Cline: Sally Cline married Daniel Hallman: Anna Barbara
Cline - Daniel Bost; Susan Cline married a Mr. Keener; and Polly Cline
married Henry Bollinger.
I spent a great deal of time on this family because of my great interest in
George Wilfong, and the earliest settlers in Catawba. Clara Shook, who
knows more about the Clines and Wikes of anyone has never found proof of
their children.
I wish I could give you proof, for it would be a nice Christmas gift for
all of us.
For those of you interested in Jacob Cline, you will find an interesting
mention of him in Mark Smith's book on St. John's which was edited by
Robert Carpenter. His brother-in-law, Andrew Hoyle, used him as in his
suit against David Henkle.
Mike, I am not sure you will ever find this proof, but I send you every
good wish for success. I am still stuck on which Barbara Cline married
Peter Moll and was she the mother of all his children [ages look doubtful]
Michael Summerour/Summerow married a Cline, and there is no proof of which
family either of the female Clines married.
Best wishes for a happy and healthy New Year. Anne
