Jean K.,
When we find errors in "Our Kin" we do need to do our best to
make the correct information available.
I have had the opportunity to see the book all my life at my
Grandmothers home. (I'm 69.) Mr. Hoffman was able to get the
information published in 1915. I feel it is one of the WONDERS OF THE
WORLD to see all the family members listed in this publication.
Telephones were not even common. The gathering of information was done
by traveling or information sent through the mail service, which was
again a wonder. The material in this publication covers families which
scattered throughout the states all the way to the Pacific Ocean. He
performed a miracle to pull all the information together and get
published by the "Cotton Mill Owners".
Just in my family lines there are statements where Mr. Hoffman
would state he did not have the thildren for this marriage, when he had
listed the children with the Mother and must have forgotten who she
married. My son had penciled notes in our book where these situations
occur, giving the page number where the information is found.
I can not say I have found a great number of errors when dealing
with the cousins who never left this general area. Those who went to
MO, TX, GA, LA, CA, OH, IL were a real challenge when he noted that his
mail was never answered.
Please keep us informed about the correct information you are
able to find.
