Still trying to pin down were in Lincoln County Littens Creek
may have been located. Hopefully someone may recognize one of
the surnames mentioned in the deeds.
Litten Creek comes up in several early 1800 Lincoln deeds. The
land is first mentioned in a 1803 Lincoln County deed were
John CRAWFORD sold 460 acres to Thomas GILLELAND. James ALLEN
is mentioned as having bordering property. In 1822 Thomas
begins to break up the land and deed it in parcels to 3 of his
sons; William, James and George. Neighbors mentioned in the
deeds are McCORKLE and George JONES. Others that served as
witnesses were Maxwell WILSON.
In 1819 Thomas GILLELAND purchased 50 acres "in the county of
Lincoln situated along the waters of Littens Mill Creek" from
John BARNES. The deed was witnessed by James FISHER and Robert
ALLEN. The land was originally granted by patent to Jacob
OZBURN (?), 28 October 1782. On 9 April 1801 the land was
then made by conveyance from the sheriff to Nancy HAR????. In
1823 Thomas deeds this land to his son Allen.
Thomas also owned a 100 acres along "Issacs (or Jones, hard to
read) creek of the Catawba river" next to James
LAYTON(LOFTON?), John STILES (?) and Joshua SHERRIL. He sold
this land to Cornelius CONNER in 1819. Thomas and James LONG
were witnesses.
Do you see any clues "hidden" in here?
Thanks for listening.
