Since we know the family (SUMMIT) was Lutheran, what Lutheran church did
they associate with?

There is a tombstone for, I believe, the wife of Francis Summitt at St.
John's Lutheran (Missouri Synod) Church, Conover, NC. It is in a
German/English dialect:

Hir Lies Burried Gu nnf Begraben Frau Samnpf
she is geboren in Jahr 1741
im Sampf gestorben 27 Anno 1818.

The Catawba Counties Cemeteries book, Volume !V translates this as:

Here lies Buried Frantz Sammet born in the year 1741 in February and died
the 27th of February in the year 1818.

Evidently, the German "Frau" was taken to be Frantz. However, if the
spelling is really "Frau", that is the German for "Mrs." Also, the
addition of February as both the birth and death month appears to be in
error unless some words were omitted from the original transcription.
Perhaps someone in the St. John's area could re-examine the inscription
and clarify these points.

Best Regards,
Ray Yount
