Bob,
It appears that the marker for Berryman Abernethy is either unreadable or
missing.
His marriage record exists in "Marriage Bonds of Tryon and Lincoln
Counties" by Curtis Bynam:
Abernathy, Berryman; Tarr, Rebeckah; Jacob Forney (bondsman); 1 May 1824; V
McBee (C.C. Lincoln Co.)
During your visit to the cemetery, you probably read the marker, which reads:
There is a Large Marker at the side of the Church which reads:
-----------------------
Early Camp meetings were organized nearby in 1824. Later a two room log Church
was erected here on land donated to trustees on August 21, 1834 by Berryman
Abernethy. The congregation soon recognized the value of education and
organized a school in the church building. About 1800 a separate log
school was
built and operated here as Wesley Chapel Academy until 1900 when it was
combined
with Yoder School. The Academy building was sold and rebuilt as a store. The
benches and oil lamps were used for awhile under the church arbor being
built at
that time. The present Church was constructed in 1880 and remodeled in 1948.
They planted Seeds of Knowledge in our Midst.
This memorial to the builders, teachers and pupils of Wesley Chapel Academy was
erected by Lucille Perkins Gentry in 1979.

Perhaps someone on this list can help.
