Bob, there are no records at all from Wesleys Chapel for this time period.
This Abernethy family is most interesting, for they are living in Catawba
County and were members of Grace Reformed Church. When the Methodist
ministers made their rounds, they made deep inroads into the Lutheran and
Reformed Churches.

I don't usually answer Abernethy discussions, except for this family and m;y
own William Abernethy and this family.

I published this in the "Catawba Cousins", because so manyh people had
problems with this and because Turner T. married a Whitener.

I don't remember if there is a deed for Berryman Abernethy in Newton. My
notes don't indicate that there was, but you should check to be sure. We
don't know if Berryman Abernethy even died here, although oral history has
always said so.

Robert Abernethy married [Lincoln] 23 June 1783 Sarah Nichols with John
Farrar as bondsman. Robert Abernethy died c1824 as proved in the Lincoln
County estate records at the NC Archives in Raleigh. The executors were:
Turner T. Abernethy and Berryman Abernethy. Sarah Nichols was alive when
her husband died.

You will find a beautiful signature of Berryman Abernethy on the Estate
papers.

Turner T. Abernethy was born in 1792 as you may have noticed in the Wesley
Chapel Cemetery.

Anna Abernethy, also 1792-22 July 1834 married [Lincoln] Philip Shuford.
They never left the Reformed Church and were members at Grace, where they
were buried.

We guess that Berryman was younger.

There is a beautiful obituary of Philip Shuford in "A Historical Sketch of
the Shuford Family", by the Rev. J. H. Shuford, pages 89 and 90.

Col. George M. Yoder wrote in his "A Condensed History of the Early Settlers
of Catawba County" that Berryman and Turner T. were brothers. I believe
that he may have written that Berryman was buried at Wesleys Chapel. This
is a typed book in the Newton Library.

I was helped in the parents of Berryman by Carl. Anderson, Jr.. He has done
great research on the Abernethys.

Hope this helps, Anne
