WANTED - FAMILY STORIES FOR THE UPCOMING GASTON COUNTY HERITAGE BOOK!

All families with residence, former residence, or roots in Gaston County
are cordially invited to submit their family history to the upcoming Gaston
County Heritage Book, North Carolina Volume I, to be published in 2000.
Stories of 500 words and one photo will be printed FREE.

There will also be a section for stories of Gaston County places and
events. We are especially interested in church, club, organization, and
community histories or stories. These histories or stories of 500 words and
one photo will also be printed FREE.

The deadline for submission of a story is September 1, 2000. In addition to
the free 500-word story and photo, extra space is available in the book @
$0.10 for each word and @ $12.50 for additional photo, or an additional 1
column wide block of photo space. The story should be typewritten and
double spaced on 8 1/2" X 11" white bond paper. (No onionskin.)

At the end of your story state the name and address of the person
submitting the story, word count, and sources for the story. (Source
example: personal knowledge; family records; Gaston County public records;
Archives & History at Raleigh.) Please contact a Heritage Book Committee
Member if assistance is needed in typing a story. It's best to submit a
glossy, black and white photo COPY, NOT an ORIGINAL photograph; however,
high quality, good contrast, laser copies will be considered. We will
accept 35mm color or studio quality color prints. Do NOT send IRREPLACEABLE
ORIGINAL photos. NO photostats or faded Polaroids will be printed. Identify
your picture with a return address label, or print lightly on the back,
including a phone number. We will accept any size photo up to 8"x 10", but
these photos will be reduced to a one column width, unless you pay an
additional fee. A concise caption, limited to 8-10 words, is needed for
each photo. Please type this caption at the bottom of your story and on a
label attached to the back of the photo.

Enclose a self-addressed, stamped, envelope for the return of your picture.
Make sure the envelope is large enough for the photo and postage is

You are invited to order a copy of the Gaston County Heritage Book now.
Only those who pay in advance are assured of obtaining one. The deadline
for book orders is September 1, 2000. The cost is $45.00 with $4.95 postage
per book if mailed. After the deadline the cost will go up! To order a book
include your name, address, and number of books wanted. If your word count
is over 500, please indicate how many, and enclose 10 cents per word.
