CHARLES LAMAR HUNSUCKER, M. D., who is engaged in the active general practice
of his profession at Hickory, Catawba County, was born in Conover, this
county, November 17, 1890, and is the son of Wilburn J. and Alice (Dellinger)
Hunsucker, who now reside in Conover, the father being a retired brick
contractor. Both the Hunsucker and Dellinger families were founded in
Catawba County in the pioneer days and both were representatives of staunch
German pioneers in the state of Pennsylvania. Lawson A. Hunsucker and Logan
Dellinger, grandfathers of Doctor Hunsucker, were loyal soldiers of the
Confederacy in the Civil War.
In 1909 Doctor Hunsucker received from Concordia College the degree of
Bachelor of Arts, and in 1913 he was graduated from North Carolina Medical
College, from which he received his degree of Doctor of Medicine, and in
which he became affiliated with the Phi Chi fraternity. After his graduation
the Doctor was engaged in practice at Drexel, Burke County, until 1915, and
he has since been established in practice in the city of Hickory, where he
specialized in obstetrics and pediatrics. In the World War period he served
in the Medical Corps of the United States army, with the rank of first
lieutenant. Doctor Hunsucker has membership in the Catawba County, the Tri
County and the North Carolina State Medical Societies and the American
Medical Association, is a member of the Kiwanis Club at hickory, and he and
his wife hold membership in Corinth Reformed Church.
In the Masonic fraternity he has received the thirty-second degree of the
Scottish Rite, is a Knight Templar and a Noble of the Mystic Shrine.
Doctor Hunsucker married Miss Fleta Moore, who likewise was born and reared
in Catawba County and who is a daughter of H. Lewis Moore, a retired farmer
who is a representative of one of the old and influential families of this
county. Doctor and Mrs. Hunsucker have three children: Clara, Helen and
Charles L., Jr.
