Still Here: Hafer, Hafner, Havens, Havnaer, Havner, Heafner (large number),
Heffner, Hefner (over 5 columns in the phone book.)

Quite a few never left this area, it seems. I checked the current
Newton Phone directory which includes Newton, Conover, Maiden, Claremont,
Hickory/Mountain View, Catawba-Sherrills Ford and Lincolnton. Use until
2002.
A lot of people missed the bus when they all left in 1802.

I will post Peggy Smith's (Mark"s Mother) address after Church hours
when I can contact my source. Peggy has moved since the death of her
husband. She may still have the same P.O. Box number. I will include the
price and you can just mail a good check and the book will be sent to you.
This book will give you lots of information about what life was all about in
this area during this period. It is not a book with information to give
family lines.

Have a good Day.

Lifting High The Cross for 200 Years St. John's Lutheran Church" by Mark
