The Burke County Public Library System is presenting its fall schedule
of the "Ancestors in the Attic" series. These workshops are free to the
public but pre-registration is requested so that meeting rooms may be
tailored to fit the number of individuals attending. Please make attendance
requests at 828-437-5638.

The presentations to be made are as follows:

October 29th - 6:30 PM - Internet Genealogy
A focus on the resources available for research in the area West of the
Catawba River and historic regions of Western NC. Presented by Derick
Hartshorn, Asst. NC state coordinator for NCGenWeb and coordinator of
Burke and Catawba NC GenWeb web pages.

November 5 - 6:30 PM - Burke County Register of Deeds
Libby Cooper, Burke Co. Register of Deeds will discuss the kinds of
records to be found in the office and how to access those records. She will
give details on how and when these records will be available online.

November 12 - 6:30 PM - Was Grandpa a Rebel or a Yankee?
Jim Pierce, Commander of Camp #836, Sons of Confederate Veterans will show
how to use the library for genealogical research and how to dertermine
lineage in order to join different organizations.

November 19th - 6:30 PM - The Civil War
Patrick Draughn, history teacher at East Burke High School will share his
vast knowledge of the circumstances that led up to the Civil War and the
conditions here in Burke County.

Unfortunately, as this is a local event, there are no provisions for
hand-outs or teaching materials for those not able to attend. If possible,
the speakers may make them available via the Internet. Please visit the web
