Dear friends,

Many of you are aware of the difficulties we have had regarding the
erection of the memorial honoring the 600 fallen soldiers that served the
Catawba county and their country during the period 1861-1865. In fact most
of my time has been devoted to this project. My e-mail responses have
fallen behind for this reason so if I have neglected anyone, please forgive
me. I will answer each one, personally.

We have encountered a new crisis relating to the proposed Confederate
memorial. The county officials (the Board of Commissioners and the Catawba
County Historical Association) have voted to prohibit the erection of the
memorial.

The SCV is very disappointed that this questionable action has been taken.
Rather than comment further, please read the release on

wriitten by the 2-19-02 editorial written by Mr. Stan Hojnacki, editor of
the Hickory Daily Record.
