Hello group:
I've been searching for the above people for quite a while, hitting
roadblocks one after the other. Here is what I have: Mahala Lafone-d/o of
Daniel Lafone who was the son of Isaac Lafone, the pioneer-Mahala- b. abt
1852. Living in a poorhouse in 1870 and 1880 Catawba County Census-possible
had a 3 month old son with her in 1880.
She had a daughter-Minnie -b. 1875. According to Minnie's marriage
certificate in 1895, her father unknown, her mother-Mahala -dead. According
to Mahala's marriage bond dated July 27, 1882, Mahala married Daniel
Sheppard, whose farher was John Sheppard and mother was Nancy Sheppard. All
this nin Catawba County register of deeds office.

According to the LDS website, Mahala and Daniel both died in NC.
However I can find no records of them in Catawba County Cemetery books, nor
in the cemetery books of surrounding counties. Catawba County Clerk of Court
has no record of any estate papers or wills for them, and The NC State
Archives has not answered my query which tells me they have nothing.

You have been great in the past and I'm certain someone out there can tell
me where to turn next.

Oh, yeah. The Catawba County Historical Society tells me they have nothing on
them and very little about the Catawba County poorhouse.

Where do I go next? HELP!

Charles Lail
Catawba County

Have also tried both Catawba County Library and Patrick Beaver Library.
