I am familiar with the John Linebarger whom migrated from Northampton, Pa. to
Lincoln County, North Carolina around 1791, The John Linebarger (d. May 6,
1847) in Parke County, Indiana was this John Linebarger's son. As you say,
the John Linebarger who died and is buried in Parke County wife's name was
Anna Maria (Mary) Hoote. She was the daughter of Michael Hoote who also
migrated to Lincoln County, NC from Northampton, Pa. about the same time that
John Linebarger Sr. migrated with his family.
It has been often stated that the John Linebarger that migrated from
Pennsylvania about 1791 was married to Elizabeth Heffelfinger. Pennsylvania
church records do record such a marriage but there is no evidence that I know
of the this is the same John Linebarger. In addition you state that the
above mentioned John and Elizabeth were the parents of 8 children. Again, I
have never been able to find any record of this either. If fact after John
Linebarger migrated around 1791 and purchased property in Lincoln County, I
CAN FIND NO DEFINITIVE RECORD OF HIM AFTER THAT PERIOD. If you have any such
information would you please share it with me.
Now having said all of that, I find that there is evidence to suggest that
the MICHAEL HOOTE mentioned above was married to a LINEBARGER while in
Pennsylvania. She accompanied him to Lincoln County, where he subsequently
died. MICHAEL HOOTE'S Will mentions his brother-in-law, PETER LINEBARGER.
In my opinion this is the same PETER LINEBARGER who died in Lincoln County,
NC in 1803, I also feel that the previously mentioned JOHN LINEBARGER SR.
was also probably a brother of PETER LINEBARGER. I realize that this theory
flies in the face of just about every die hard LINEBARGER researcher out
there but to my knowledge none of these researchers have ever produced any
hard evidence to the contrary.
