I looked through my sources and below are the highlights of what I found about John Thackera. I was focused on Israel THACKERA and his wife Phebe Ann (RANNELLS) THACKERA and her connection to the Rannells family. I don't really have that much on John, but I do see that he had a brother Wallace, and that his parents were Israel and Phebe Thackara. I'd be interested in what other information you have. I've listed my source first and then relevant details.
1) National Archives Civil War Pension Application & Records for Israel Thackara, invalid & Phebe A Thackara, widow. Certificate No 656105. [This is a file consisting of a number of depositions and other records, some of which are listed below]
5 Sep 1898 Israel Thackara states he was married to Phebe A. Rannells by Rev. J. Carson in Sumner IL on Dec 22, 1867, recorded in Co Clerk office Olney, IL (Richman Co IL) He has two living sons. John E. Thackara born Feb 9th 1869 & Wallace E Thackara born Nov 5th 1876
6 Jan 1908 Solano Co. CA Deposition by Ella RANNELLS, age 67 (@1841), resident of Vallejo, Solano Co. CA. She has known Phebe A Thackara nee Rannells from age of 14 yrs. Knows Phebe was married only once to Israel THACKARA. They were married in deponent's home in Sumner IL, Dec 22 1867. [Ella Rannells is wife to Wm. L Rannells, brother of Phebe A Thackara]
19 Dec 1907 Certificate of marriage Richland Co, IL, stating the record of Israel & Phebe's marriage is on file in the clerks office.
16 Mar 1907 Phebe A Thackara deposes that under the name of Phebe Ann Rannells she married Israel Thackera 22 Dec 1867 at Sumner, IL; and that he was her only spouse. She also deposes that Israel Thackara died in Brownell, Siskiyou Co. CA Jan 28, 1907.
27 January 1908 Siskiyou Co. CA Deposition by John D. RANNELLS, age 67 (@1841) , resident of Rose Lawn, Siskiyou Co. CA, states he was present at marriage of Phebe A. Rannells and Israel Thackara Dec 1867. [ John D. Rannells is the brother of Phebe Thackara]
12 Nov 1907 Depositon by Earl Brownell [nephew of Phebe A Thackara- son of her sister Sarah Miranda (Rannells) Brownell] that he was present at the death of Israel Thackara on Jan 28, 1907 at the residence of Israel Thackara.
5 Oct 1895. Depositon by Israel. Thackara. States he enlisted 5 August 1862. That he was shortly thereafter taken prisoner at Tates Ferry Kentucky. During the winter, while a prisoner, he contracted a lung disease. He was released on Parole, and went to the army hospital in Ohio and was discharged in April 1863, and he has been disabled since.
10 Apr 1890 Deposition by William L. Rannells age 53 (@1837) Tehama Co CA. States known Israel THACKARA since 1865. [Wm. L Rannells is the brother of Phebe, Israel's wife]
6 June 1888 Miami Co. OH Deposition by Amanda CARTER, age 54, PO is Lena, Miami Co OH. States that Israel THACKARA lived in Miami Co OH before and after he went into Army. In 1865 he left for IL.
26 Apr 1890 Tehama Co. CA Deposition by Mrs Martin Brownell age 38 (@1852), resident of Tehama Co. States known Israel THACKARA since 1865. She was residing in Richland Co IL at that time. He came from OH to IL at that time. He came to CA at about the same time "I and my people" did. He has been dependent on his family for support from 1878. [Mrs Brownell is the Sarah Miranda (Rannells) Brownell, sister of Phebe, Israel's wife].
11 April 1890. Deposition by Orris A BATTSON, MD in Sumner, IL stating that he knew Israel Thackara of Richland Co IL from 1865-1876, and was his physician from 1874-1876. He states that Thackara left for California after Dec 7 1876 in hopes of improvements to his health.
21 Aug 1888 Deposition by G.M WESTLAKE, MD, Tehama CA. Treated Israel Thackara in 1881. Re-examined today (1888). Symptoms consistant with Tuberculosis, and disability is total.
29 Apr 1908. Desparate letter from Phebe Thackara begging for pension as she had no other source of income.
2) National Archives Bounty Land Warrant. National Archives Trust Fund, PO Box 402205, Atlanta, GA 30384-2205 Sacramento #05666. Heirs of Phebe A. Thackera.
Phebe Thackera began homesteading land (W ½ SE ¼ & SE ¼ SW ¼ of Sect. 7 Township 45 N Range 3 E MD Meridian containing 120 acres) in Siskiyou County Feb 3, 1912. She died August 1913. Her sons, John Edward Thackera and Wallace Eugene Thackera filed to get patent to the land.
1917 Feb 6 Wallace Eugene Thackera deposed that he was 40 years old, born in Illinois. He lived in Dorris, CA. He was single.
He made another deposition on the same date stating that he is one of the heirs and administrators of Phoebe Ann Thackara's estate and that the only other heir is John Edward Thackera.
1918 Nov 4 Wallace E Thackera deposed that he was 42 years old, born in Illinois. He lived in Dorris, CA. He was married & his family consisted of self and wife
He made another deposition on the same date stating that he is one of the heirs and administrators of Phoebe Ann Thackara's estate and that the only other heir is his brother John Thackera.
1918 Nov 4 John E Thackara Heir and Administrator of estate Phoebe Ann Thackara states that other than his brother Wallace E. Thackara there are no other children or heirs to the estate of Phoebe Ann Thackara.
1918 Nov 4 The office manager of the Dorris Times signed an affidavit of publication stating that a notice of intention of the heirs of Phoebe Ann Thackara to make 5 year proof to establish claim to the land had been published weekly for 5 weeks from Sep 29 1918 till Oct 25 1918. Listed among the witnesses is E. E. Brownell.
On 23 Nov 1918 Wallace E Thackera deposed that Phoebe Ann Thackara was born in Ohio, married prior to 1907, died 1 Aug 1913. Wallace mentions his brother, another son of Phoebe, John E. Thackara.

5 June 1880 Family of Israel Thackara, Turkey Raiser, age 44, born PA (both parents born PA), lives with Phoebe, wife age 34, born OH (both parents born OH), John, son, age 10 born IL and Wallace, age 3 born IL.

23 May 1876 Will signed.
Item 8th. "I give and bequeath to Phebe Thackery, daughter of William and Phebe Rannells the sum of one hundred dollars."

[The deceased was Phebe Ann (Rannells) Thackara's grandfather. The son William B. Rannells mentioned in the will was her father. The Eliza L. Rannells mentioned is her aunt, and the testatrix in the will mentioned above.]

Three deeds related to the property of Benjamin Bay, deceased. Gracie Bay is identified as widow of Benjamin Bay and guardian of James Bay a minor. Other heirs are Thomas Bay & wife Ruth. David St. Clair and wife Elizabeth, William B Rannells and wife Phebe, William St. Clair, Gracy Bay & Sarah Bay. [Benjamin Bay is the grandfather of Phebe Ann (Rannells) Thackera, father of her mother Phebe (Bay) Rannells. Gracie Bay is Phebe (Bay) Rannells' mother]

11) The BLM's index to GLO patents. I haven't seen the actual records but the index shows land that went to most of the people who made depositions above. (Martin & Sarah Brownell, Wm L Rannells, Israel Thackera, Phebe Thackara, (& another brother Isaiah Wilson Rannells) -- John Edward Thackera and Wallace Thackera.
