In the obituary of James Solomon Wright b 22 Nov 1839 Lincoln Co, Tennessee died 26 Jan 1891 Red Bluff, Tehama Co, California it states that he moved to Arkansas in 1852, crossed the plains in 1857 and in the Fall of 1858 located in what is now called Paskenta (obit was in 1891).
I looked again Nita at that 1860 extract in Paskenta and the two other people in the household of James Wright 20 b TN are INDIANS. It shows in the race column Ind for George and Jane. For James that column is empty. If you look at others on that and surrouding pages evidently they lived near a reservation (there is a reservation agent a few pages back) and lots of these Indians were working as laborers or on the farms of white people in the area. So now I'm convinced that that IS our James.
Then I looked up all that land that was probated for Malinda in 1898 to see who originally was granted it. Some of it was to James in 1875 and 1878 and a bit to Malinda in 1883 the rest was to different people. I guess James bought it off them piece by piece. His obit says that "...by honesty and industry he had accumulated considerable property". None of the property probated appears to have been originally granted to Edith Martin or Edith Duncan or Thomas Duncan or William Martin, so I'm not sure how they got to be partners.
