Dear List
Is there someone out there who can answer this generalized question.
If my great grandfather was baptised Catholic in 1852 (53 or 54) at birth but
I don't
know his parents first names (mother's first name known; father's last name
known)
is there a "list" somewhere that might reveal his paternity? He was
supposedly
born in Allamakee Iowa in 1852 (or those other two years) ... His name is
Adolphus Develow Stanley. His mother's name is Sylvia; father's first name
unknown
but could be Horatio or John.
We can not find Adolphus listed anywhere on census etc. until he marries in
MN about 29 years later ... appears by a "minister of the gospel" but no
denomination
and not a JP. We know he moved around a great deal before marriage so is it
conceivable he missed EVERY census ... There is an Alexander Stanley listed
as
son of Hannah and John in IO but I don't know what to make of that altho' the
dates coincide.
Just thought I would ask about the possibility of the church records and
whether they
were possible to find using the child's name??? Please if you have any ideas
or
can point me somewhere I would appreciate the information.
Thank you!
