BIRTH -- in Sonora, on the 7th inst., the lady of Frank ROTH, of a son.
DIED -- in Kincaid's Flat, July 29th, Hans BOGERT, a native of Denmark,
aged 34 years.
DIED -- in Sonora, Aug. 5, of apoplexy, H. Ann THOMAS, wife of C.R.

SUICIDE -- A man by name of James LOWNDE committed suicide at Shaw's Flat
on Tuesday last, by taking arsenic. Deceased was a native of Ireland, aged
about 50 years. Coroner Fred FROUND held an inquest and a verdict of
suicide was rendered.
KILLED -- Dennis CALAHAN, a native of county Cork, Ireland, aged about 45
years, fell into the mining claim of Thos. WELCH, near Columbia, on Sunday
last, and almost instantly killed.

PROMOTED -- Lieut. DERBY, widely known as "John Phoenix," has been promoted
to the rank of Captain. Mr. D. is one of the greatest wits of the day, and
we are pleased to note his advancement. He is nearly blind, and otherwise
in bad health.
