Here's a links to the Jacksonville historical marker:

http://www.brightbill.net/cgi-bin/suid/thomasb/lm/one-site?site=54

And from the Union Democrat's website:

Jacksonville - Settled by Julian Smart, who planted first garden and orchard
in Tuolumne County, spring of 1849. Named for Col. A.M. Jackson, who opened
first trading post, 1849. Second largest town in county in 1850, gathering
place for thousands of miners working rich bed of Tuolumne River. Now
covered by Don Pedro Reservoir.

Not much else is online, but the Tuolumne County Historical Society may have
more specific information for you. Their website (which is frequently
unavailable) is www.tchistory.org.

Dee,
Do you have anything on the little town of Jacksonville, now under Don Pedro
Dam, Tuolumne Co.? I used to live there as a young man. I think it was the
first county seat? (Between Chinese Camp and Big Oak Flats, before Mt. River
Lodge).
Jerry
