John Phillip (b. abt. 1822; d. 1895, Winters, CA.) and Margaret Elizabeth ( b. Feb.,1828; d.April 24, 1879 Yolo Co. CA.) Schantz were my gg-grandparents. They were both born in Alsace Lorraine, France.
They had 5 daughters: Clara Elizabeth (my g-grandmother), Alice M., Dora P., Nellie, and Belle L.
I have not researched that branch of my family any further back that John P. Schantz. He came to New York as a young man, then to the CA. gold fields in 1849, back to New York and married and then back to California. They lived in Sacramento, CA. for a few years and then moved to Winter, CA. where he farmed in the Buckeye District. They both died in Yolo Co. CA.
There were no other families with the name of Schantz that I have found in this area.
