Lucille (Moger) Timm

Lucille (Moger) Timm died in Oroville Saturday, March 30, 2002, at age 94.

Born Feb. 9, 1908, on a homestead in North-Central Nebraska near what is now Giles, N.E., Mrs. Timm was the fifth of nine children of Lucy Exene (Stannard) who was born in 1877 in Berrien Spring, Mich., and Walter Ernest Moger, born in Dover, Ill. in 1858. She was named Lucille Patience Moger, and nicknamed "Pinkie" by her father.

Graduating from Peru State Teachers College in Peru, N.E., She taught school until laid off by depression cutbacks. After a failed first marriage, she met Robert Timm in Wahoo, N.E., in the café, where she cooked. She married him in Eugene, Ore., on July 28, 1941.

Her husband was born in Ithaca, NE. After their marriage they came to Woodland where she worked at Nugget Market in the meat department in 1942, they then moved west following available jobs, and then south where work and war jobs led them, through shipyard construction in the Bay Area, lumber camps in Oregon, road construction in the Sierras and other places, and, finally, back to Woodland in 1948, moving to her "meeting place" home on Second Street in 1950. It was at this time that she became very active in the United Methodist Church on North St.

Mrs. Timm began working at Matmor Canning Co., weighing trucks, worked through more responsible positions as it's name changed to Hershel California Fruit Products Co., Inc., then to Contadina Foods, Carnation Company, Contadina Division and then to Nestle, USA.

She retired after 22 years when Robert's health failed, having risen to executive assistant to the general production manager of the three plants. After hip surgery in 1991, she moved to Ogalalla, Neb., where she was nursed back to health by her then surviving sister, Grace Smersh and her husband, Howard. She returned to California when Grace passed on, to live with her remaining sibling, Charles Edward Moger and his wife, Ruby, in Camptonville and then Oroville. In her few years in Oroville, she again became very active in the United Methodist Women.

She is survived by her brother, Charles Moger of Oroville; niece, Susanne Nelson of Woodland, who she claimed as her second family; nephews, John Moger and wife Lillian of Woodland; and Robert Moger and wife Anna of Placerville; numerous other nieces; nephews, family and friends with whom she remained in touch and close to even when separated by up to half a continent.

Mrs. Timm was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Timm, in July of 1971; other siblings, Charlotte Pearl Mahaffie, Thelma Abbie Crooker, William Ernest Moger, Almond Jordan Moger, Ruby Lenola Moger, Ruth Stanard Moger, and Grace Bernice Phebe Smersh.

A graveside committal service is scheduled at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 10, 2002, at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland, with Pastor Doug Johnson of United Methodist Church, officiating.

The family request memorials be directed to the United Methodist Church in Woodland or in Oroville, in her behalf.
