Byron "Barney" James McAllister

Byron "Barney" James McAllister died at Woodland Memorial Hospital Friday, April 20, 2001. He was 78.

Born Feb. 20, 1923 in Treece, Kansas, McAllister was a resident of Yolo County for 37 years. He served in Europe for the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a truck driver for 32 years working for Teichert Construction Co. and belonged to Teamsters Local No. 150. He was a member and past captain of the Spartin Motorcycle Club and a member of VFW Post 1985 in Woodland.

McAllister is survived by his wife, Joyce McAllister of Woodland; sons Michael J. McAllister and wife Glenda of Brownsville, Calif., Raymond McAllister of Esparto, and Jim Walker and wife Cindy of Woodland; daughters Patricia Spiva and husband Bruce of Sparts, Nev.; and Katherine F. McAllister of Rancho Cordova; and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at McNary's Chapel, 458 College St. Woodland with The Rev. John Sublett officiating.

The family would prefer memorials be in the form of donations to the American Diabetes Association.

McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.
