Herbert F. Bishop

Herbert F. Bishop of Woodland died on May 3, 2002, at Stollwood Convalescent Hospital in Woodland. He was 88.

He was born on May 16, 1913, in Manchester to Herbert and Belle "Dougherty" Bishop. He was a graduate of Coalinga High School and lived along the coast in the Fort Bragg area for 50 years before moving to Woodland in 1983.

He enjoyed many hobbies, including gardening, hunting, fishing and playing pool and softball in his younger years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Ledford Bishop, in 1997; son, Harley Bishop, in 1998; grandson, Mark Smith, in 1998; and great-granddaughter, Trisha Thomas, in 1983.

He is survived by his daughters, Tharon Thompson, Peggy Welty and Gayle Cardwell, all of Woodland, and Lola Dahl of Fort Bragg. He is also survived by six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Corkwood Restaurant, 154 W. Main St., Woodland.

The family prefers that contributions be made to charities of the donor's choice.

McNary's Chapel of Woodland is assisting the family with the arrangements.
