Gene L. McShane

Gene Lawrence McShane died Oct. 14, 2000. Born July 27, 1909, in Red Bluff to Bertha Eachus and James W. McShane, he was 91 years old.

He lived with his family in Sutter Creek before moving to Sacramento in 1917. He was married to Jessie Fremont Clayton on Oct. 23, 1932.

He graduated from The Frank Wiggins Trade School in Los Angeles in 1938, receiving a certificate in air conditioning and refrigeration. During World War II he worked in the ship yards in Richmond, and after the war he worked for York Pacific Refrigeration in Sacramento and Chico.

In 1950, he began work in the refrigeration department at UC Davis. The family moved to Davis in 1951, and he continued to work for the university until his retirement in 1974.

He was preceded in death in 1997 by his wife, and he continued to live in Davis until his death. He was a member of Athens Lodge 228, of the Masonic Order of California. The McShanes were long-time members of the Fidelis Fellowship of the Oak Park Methodist Church, Sacramento, and were charter members of the Ark Mariners of the Davis Community Church.

He is survived by his daughter, Marilyn Love, and her husband John, of New Jersey; his son, Michael, and wife Terri, of Colorado; and his two granddaughters, Kelly Love of Davis and Jennifer Love of Minnesota.

A memorial service was held this morning at Davis Community Church. The family requests that any remembrances be made to Yolo Hospice.
