Howard W. Hillis

Howard Wiley Hillis died at Sutter Davis Hospital on May 16, 2000. Born in Madison, Ind., on Oct. 7, 1911, to the late Archie and Grace Hillis, he was 88.

He was a resident of Woodland for 21 years before moving to Davis 2 1/2 years ago. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He graduated from the University of Indiana with a B.S. degree in chemistry and worked for DuPont Co. for 31 years, retiring in 1976.

He is survived by his daughters, Melinda Hillis of San Jose and Molly Hillis of Davis, and his son, John Hillis of Davis. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Cynthia Nelson of Oakland, David Nelson of Novato, Wendy and Mathew Hillis, and Ashley, Cory and Whitney Hillis, all of Davis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Hillis, in 1996.

A memorial service is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Davis Community Church, 412 C St.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis, CA 95617.

McNary's Chapel assisted the family with the arrangements.
