Horace T. Strong

Horace Thomas Strong died May 10, 2000, in Carmichael. Born September 13, 1901, in Moscow, Idaho, he was 98 years old.

He was preceded in death by his wife Beryl J. Strong. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Baldwin of Carmichael; son, Robert L. Strong of Newcastle, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He lived in Idaho until the age of 10 when his family moved to Santa Ana. He graduated from Oregon State College in 1924 with a degree in agriculture. He was assistant farm adviser for Kern County for 17 years before being transferred to Berkeley as an Extension livestock specialist. He and his wife moved to Davis when the Extension office was relocated here.

While at UCD he was credited with contributions that helped make possible the development of California's giant cattle feedlot industry.

He retired in 1966 after a 40-year career with the University of California Agricultural Extension Service. In August of 1967 he was given the Pfizer Animal Science Extension award for distinguished service to the nation's livestock industry.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of North Sacramento Funeral Home. The family will hold a private interment.
