Paul C. Thompson

Paul C. Thompson died in Sacramento unexpectedly following a heart attack Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at age 45.

Mr. Thompson was an emergency medical technician/paramedic for over 20 years in Northern California. He was responsible for saving countless lives. He also served as a potent force in employee advocacy for the American Medical Response (AMR) union members of Local 250 and played an essential role in educating the next generation of paramedics. "Paul Thompson was a warm, dedicated, and kind-hearted person who cared deeply about his friends, family and those he saved every day on the job. He has left a void in the hearts of those who knew him and will be greatly missed," stated Doug Petrick, Director of Operations for AMR.

He began his career as an emergency medical technician in 1982 and became an EMT-II in 1987 working for Bi-County Ambulance. In 1989, he became a Paramedic and began working for Davis Ambulance, now named AMR.. After graduating from McKinleyville High School in 1975, he served in the U.S. Air Force for six years. He then worked for The Army National Guard for several y ears.

Mr. Thompson is survived by his children, Sabrina, Angela and James.

A funeral service is scheduled at 10 a.m. today, Friday, at Madison Avenue Baptist Church, 4148 Madison Ave. near Hillsdale in Sacramento County.

He will be honored through a special burial procession with ambulances, fire engines, and a helicopter along with many emergency service workers in attendance.
