Anna Marie Beeman

Anna Marie Beeman died at her home in her sleep, the morning of Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003. She was 81 years old and had suffered from Congestive Heart Failure.

Anna Marie was born Jan. 9, 1922 in Woodland to Frank and Anna Sieferman. She was the oldest of three children which later included Frank, her brother and Leah Mae, her sister.

Her Grandparents Friedolin and Magdalena Sieferman, came from Germany and settled west of Woodland on the homeplace in 1869. Both they and Anna Maries' parents were grain farmers relying on the weather, as there was no irrigation at that time.

Anna Marie attended Holy Rosary Academy and then Woodland High School. Upon graduating she carpooled with Phyllis Hollingsworth to Heald College Secretary School. She worked 1 - 2 years as a secretary for the state.

She met, dated and later married Howard Dean Beeman on Easter Sunday, April 5, 1942. It snowed that day in Woodland. They moved into the Beeman Ranch that had belonged to Howards' parents and where he had lived his whole life. Anna Marie now became a farmers' wife. They proceeded to have six children: Howard II, Michael, Sue Ann, Betsy, Kevan and Donald; three sons and three daughters.

Throughout her life she devoted herself to raising the kids as well as devoting herself to the betterment of the community, charities and organizations.

"Siefie" as she was also known, joined, helped and headed various organizations. She was a consummate volunteer. Some of the more recent were: President of Yolo "Y" Womens Club, President of the Yolo County Museum Society - also opening and running the Museum Thrift Store with Jane Reiff, Woodland Memorial Auxiliary, Town and Country Club, Republican Central Committee member, Red Cross Board Member, U.C. Davis Library Board of Directors, Omega Nu Sorority-holding various offices including President in Woodland and Grand President of the collective Omega Nu sororities, Yolo County Fair Board Member two terms, and the Blood Bank - honored this year for over 50 years of volunteering, longer than anyone else in the whole Sacramento area. . . she was given a standing ovation.

She worked hard for whatever organization or charity and didn't expect or look for rewards - but she was tickled pink when honored. One such award she was particularly proud of was being honored with the Community Service Award from the City Council for her outstanding civic leadership, service to the community and dedication to local service groups.

Many people will remember her for all the cards she sent, her friendly visits and her sociability. She was well known and even had a profile in the Daily Democrat. She was often sought for advice and her knowledge of Yolo County History, people, places, and general information. Her opinions were valued. She will be deeply missed.

Anna Marie was proceeded in death by her husband Howard and daughters Sue Ann and Betsy, and her sister Leah Mae Sieferman. She is survived by son, Howard and Susan (Pelican) Beeman - grandchildren Howard III, Ezra and Rachel; son Michael and Tootie Beeman - grandchildren Tim and Honey; daughter Kevan Louise Beeman; and son Donald William Beeman. Also surviving her are brother Frank and Jane Sieferman of Zamora; nephew Frank Sieferman Jr.; and nieces Carol and Liz Sieferman.

Graveside services will be conducted by Reverend David Affleck of St. Luke's Episcopal Church at Monument Hill Memorial Park at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 2003. Remembrances can be in the form of a donations to your favorite charity; or Stollwood Convalescent Hospital; or the Episcopal Church.
